This technology aims to reduce or remove concentrations of harmful
substances, making the area available for new uses, under favorable
conditions of technical feasibility and cost-benefit ratio. The
technology shall be presented in stages for approval by environmental
control agency, before implementation, and in case of serious risks,
safety measures shall be adopted for reducing the diffusion of harmful
substances into the environment.
Extraction of Soil Vapors – technology using vacuum
application for extraction of contaminants adsorbed in the soil, by
volatilization of organic compounds. This technology also renews/moves
the underground air, stimulating biodegradation processes.
Multi-Phase Extraction (MPE) – This technique consists
basically in removing the free phase by using minimum water, also
removing vapors from the soil, re-mobilizing the residual phase of the
contaminant captured in the unsaturated zone, venting the soil and the
upper parts of the underground water.
Air
Sparging -
This system consists in injecting of air into the saturated
zone, increasing the concentration of the oxygen dissolved in
underground waters, stimulating the biodegradation process of the
contaminants, and volatilization of the organic compounds from the
dissolved phase into the unsaturated zone.
Bioventing – BV
- It is the process of venting the soil for stimulating the biologic
activity in situ and promoting biodegradation of contaminants.
Biopile – It is a technique used in contaminated
soils, conditioning the contaminated waste by mixing with structuring
agents and organic additives, such as: wood chips, animal and vegetal
waste, responsible for increasing the porosity and available organic
material. The mix is arranged in piles on waterproofed areas,
biodegradation of the oily components of the waste is stimulated by
vacuum venting system or forced convection. The treated soil is
assessed, as a function of its characteristics, and is reused or
disposed.
Thermal Dessortion – Technology for thermal treatment
of soil impregnated with light hydrocarbons, the soil is decontaminated
by volatilization of the contaminant.
